A Circle of Light in Hsinchu

The video opens with a focus on Hsinchu’s world-renowned industries of technology and space, symbolized by the iconic shapes of semiconductors and the FORMOSAT-5 satellite. The lens then shifts to the traditional local flavors of Lantern Festival—meatballs, rice noodles, tangyuan, and family gatherings—each tied together by the motif of a circle.

It continues to capture the timeless spirit of Hsinchu’s Chenghuang Temple, highlighting circular elements in its architecture.
Finally, scenes of children chasing pinwheels, lanterns, and flying discs bring playful energy into the frame, driven by Hsinchu’s famous winds. These circles of light converge and illuminate the centerpiece of the festival: the East Gate Roundabout.

From technology to culture, from modernity to tradition, from festive rituals to childlike wonder, and from the world to Hsinchu—we hope this "circle" sparks endless imagination, anticipation, and new possibilities for the future of Hsinchu and the Lantern Festival.

The project focuses on bringing to life the vibrant colors, intricate designs, and symbolic meanings of traditional lanterns while incorporating modern motion design elements. From floating sky lanterns to elaborate themed installations, the animation showcases the festival's evolution from its ancient roots to its current status as a major cultural event.

Through dynamic transitions, particle effects, and stylized illustrations, this motion graphics piece tells the story of how light, hope, and artistic innovation come together in this beloved Taiwanese celebration.
